The Yellowstone actor has a son, Liam, 26, with his previous partner Bridget Rooney, and three older children, Annie, 39, Lily, 37, and Joe, 36, with his ex-wife Cindy Silva. Three children were born to the Oscar winner and his now-divorced wife, designer Christine Baumgartner, in September 2004: Cayden Wyatt, 15, Hayes Logan, 15, and Grace Avery, 13.
After 18 years of marriage, Baumgartner filed for divorce from the Dances with Wolves star on May 1, 2023.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Costner’s spokesperson stated, “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action.”
It was discovered the next month that Baumgartner was requesting $248,000 a month in child support for each of the three children. She claimed in the lawsuit that the sum “is less than the amount needed to maintain the children in their accustomed lifestyle.” In the end, a judge mandated that Baumgartner receive $63,209 per month in child support from Costner.
One of Costner’s greatest delights, as he stated to PEOPLE back in November 2022, is being a father.
“You’ve got to get down on the ground and play with them,” he stated. “You also train children to be independent, which is awful because that’s exactly what happens. Like any other parent, I’m still figuring things out.

Annie Costner, 39
Annie Costner, the eldest child of Kevin Costner, was born in Los Angeles on April 15, 1984.
At an early age, she started to emulate her well-known father by costarring with Costner in the Academy Award–winning movie Dances With Wolves as Christine. Her other acting credits are from Lazy Teenage Superheroes, The Postman, and The Baby-Sitters Club.
Annie eventually made the switch from producing to acting. She created Sound Off Films in 2014 and is one of its co-founders. Annie has produced a number of films through her company, including Witness Tour, which included Katy Perry, The Pittsburgh Drug Trials, The Discarded: A Tale of Two Riots, and Bump and Spike.
Annie wed Dr. Danny Cox, a doctor, in July 2016 at her father’s Carpinteria, California, residence.
Lily Costner, 37
The second child of Costner and Silva, Lily Costner, was born in Los Angeles on August 4, 1986.
Lily, like her elder sister, starred in two 1995 films: Costner’s The Postman and The Baby-Sitters Club.
Like her father, who is a musician and the lead vocalist of his band, Kevin Costner & Modern West, Lily has a gift for singing in addition to acting. She joined Costner’s band for a duet of the song “Heaven’s Gate,” which is featured on the album Tales from Yellowstone, and she has contributed to the soundtracks of several of his projects.
Costner exalted Lily’s musical abilities to HuffPost in June 2014, writing, “Lily is an amazing singer and songwriter.” If she so chooses, she has the potential to be a truly enormous star. It’s unclear if she desires that. She is quite talented. Lily doesn’t believe in kicking down doors. She seems to seek a good life, in my opinion. Joe Costner, 36
On January 31, 1988, Joe Costner—the youngest child of Costner and Silva—was born in Los Angeles. After starring alongside Costner in 1996’s Tin Cup, he starred in The Postman as a child alongside his father and elder sisters. Joe now works as an audio engineer and production sound mixer in the entertainment industry’s backrooms.

Cayden Wyatt Costner, 15
After splitting from Silva in 1994, Costner had previously expressed reluctance to remarry and start a family, but in 2004 he married Christine Baumgartner.
In 2008, he said to Parade, “Christine wanted a child, but I was afraid I couldn’t be an effective father.” “One day when I woke up, I wondered, ‘Am I going to lose a beautiful woman because I’m afraid to say yes to a child, or will she be with me until the end of time?'” All it took was that. I made the decision that I would not let love pass me by.”
Cayden Wyatt Costner was born in Los Angeles on May 6, 2007, a few years after the couple’s marriage. When Cayden was born, Costner was fifty-two years old. He told PEOPLE that he was worried about being a father beyond fifty, but that there were benefits as well.

The actor also talked on how, at the time, he and Baumgartner were getting Cayden ready for big brotherhood because the couple was expecting their second child. Costner remarked, “We tried to kind of prep him.” “We showed him the bassinet where the baby is going to be, and he started throwing junk in there.”
Hayes Logan Costner, 15
8 pounds, 15 ounces Hayes Logan Costner was born in Los Angeles on February 12, 2009. While he was working on a Western movie, Costner disclosed that the inspiration for Hayes’ name came from a cowboy character. He noted that Hayes is “a great Western name.”
According to Costner, who spoke on Today, Hayes started playing sports at an early age. “We’re at all the Little League games, we’re in that car constantly, we’re trying to get the kids on the same team so we won’t have to go to three different practices,” the actor said.
He went on, “So poor little Hayes, who’s in the middle, has to play with kids who are eight and nine years old, and he’s like seven years old, and he can do it.” He will therefore eventually ask himself, “Why was I always forced into leagues?”
Hayes and his siblings go to their father’s movie premieres when they’re not engaged in typical kid-friendly activities. The entire family went to see Costner’s 2019 film The Art of Racing in the Rain in Los Angeles. Grace Avery Costner, 13
On June 2, 2010, Costner and Baumgartner welcomed Grace Avery Costner into their family, their third child, in California.
Grace first realized at the age of five that her father had to change his appearance in order to get big-budget hits. Costner said during a Today interview that he was getting ready for his action movie Criminal, “My children are kind of used to that — Chris has to explain, ‘Daddy looks a little different sometimes at the PTA meetings.'” He continued, “If I come home — and that haircut I actually had was pretty severe — and Gracie looks at me and then looks at Mom and says ‘Daddy’s been fighting again, huh?'”
Grace does not enjoy sports, in contrast to her brothers. Costner talked about his “girly girl” and her interests in the same Today interview. “She’s sewing and she’s dancing, but when she sees the ball bouncing out in the backyard I can feel her gravitating out with the boys — but everything has to stop when she plays,” he stated.
