Tuesday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced that Dominic Miller of Kansas City and Lyndell Mays of Rayton, Missouri, were both charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

According to local KMBC, Miller is 18 or 19. Mays is 23. Bonds of $1 million have been set for both men.

They were arrested days after two teenagers were charged with gun-related charges and resisting arrest in connection with the shooting, according to The Associated Press. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two and a DJ for local radio station KKFI 90.1 FM, was killed in the shooting. The majority of the 22 people shot were under the age of 16.

KMBC reported that the two juveniles may be tried as adults given the circumstances.

Any of the suspects have entered pleas or retained attorneys, but it is unclear whether they have done so.

“A verbal altercation occurred last Wednesday and gunfire broke out without regard for thousands of other individuals in the area,” Baker said in a news release.

Baker outlined the events leading up to the shooting at a press conference on Tuesday.

Baker alleged that Mays had a verbal argument with another individual, clarifying that Mays did not know the individual beforehand.

The argument escalated quickly to Mays drawing his firearm, a handgun, Baker claimed. “Mays pulled out his handgun first. Almost immediately, others drew their firearms. Defendant Miller was one of them. Despite the fact that both adults are charged with murder, the evidence indicates that it was Mr. Miller’s firearm that struck Lisa Lopez-Galvan.”

At Tuesday’s press conference, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves called the men’s actions “reckless,” and Mayor Quinton Lucas called for swift, sure, and severe consequences.

Baker said “this investigation is still very, very active and ongoing” and asked anyone injured to contact investigators.

According to Baker, every shooter must be held accountable for their actions on that day. “Every single one of them.”

Following last week’s deadly shooting, Kansas City Chiefs players have spoken out. Earlier this week, Travis Kelce called the mass shooting “deeply tragic” and donated $100,000 to two girls who were shot and are recovering, while Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany Mahomes visited several children in the hospital.

We want to be there for them, just like #ChiefsKingdom has always been there for me and my family,” Mahomes, 28, tweeted last week, announcing an emergency response fund to help victims and their families. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $860,000 had been raised.
